THIS YEAR'S CATCH & RELEASE WINNER We all knew he was good. Over the years he has caught and released a lot of nice fish. He fishes hard and he knows the Wabatongushi Lake very well but we were still surprised when Russ Meyer caught a 29" Walleye and a 43.5" Northern Pike within a day of each other. Even considering the prime fishing conditions the biggest factor is Russ's exceptional prowess as a fisherman. Having passed his 70th birthday he has a lot of experience fishing. It gives us great pleasure in awarding the Titus Award for the largest Pike caught and released and the Gentle Fisherman Award for the largest Walleye caught and released to Russ Meyer for 1996. We have another angler we would like to mention. She is already
an exceptional Northern Pike fisherperson at 10 years old. Lauren
Bye really tried hard to catch the largest Pike this year and
came close by releasing a 42" Northern in August. Both her
and her brother Travis love Pike fishing with their parents and
they released quite a number of other Northern Pike between 24"
and 40". Catch & Release - 1996 Winners We had an extremely good catch & release year again. As
most of you know for the past several years we have been asking
you to record all of the Walleyes you released over 16" and
all the Northern Pike you released over 24" in our Catch
& Release log. From this log we randomly draw names for winners
of discounted vacations in the following year. We also use this
log to determine the winners of our trophies for the largest pike
and walleye released.
The 100's of fish that were released this year will not only be larger next year, they are also large enough to spawn and produce more fish for the future.
