In order to be Environmentally & Bear friendly we compost all of the food waste from the lodge and entire resort. Our composters of choice, the black bears, accept any type of food waste. Fruit, vegetables, egg shells, meat & bones are all consumed with equal enthusiasm. This keeps food waste that might attract Bears off our island.
Please put all of waste food into the container provided. When full leave on you dock before 1:00pm. It will be collected and a clean container will be left at your cabin. Please ensure that trash items are not included with food waste. Our composters reject them and they make a mess.

*Important - We go to a lot of effort to ensure our Black Bear neighbours do not become friendly to humans. When we bring food waste to the Black Bears it is a very controlled and deliberate manner to ensure the Black Bears lose none of their inate caution of people. Do not throw any food to bears from the boats. Black Bears become "too friendly" very quickly.
