Take a train to Ontario's Northern Wilderness
from downtown Toronto?

Take the Ontario Northlander Passenger Train from Toronto's Union Station and be at our resort by noon the next day!

(You can also board the train north of Toronto at Washago, Gravenhurst, Bracebridge, Huntsville, South River and North Bay)

Ontario Northland's passenger train connects Southern Ontario to Northern Ontario. Although Ontario Northland Train only goes as far as Cochrane, they run a bus schuttle from Cochrane to Hearst where you can board the Algoma Central Railway.

Ontario Northland Transportation provides this service as one ticket right from Toronto's Union Station all the way to Hearst. You spend the night in Hearst at one of the hotels then board the Algoma Central Railway Passenger Train the next morning which will bring you to Wabatongushi Lake at about 11:00 am where we will be waiting for you.

Because the Algoma Central Railway passenger train only runs 3 day per week and the Ontario Northland Passenger Train only runs each day except Saturday, you should plan your arrival and departure for specific days. They are:

Arrivals Days

• Leave Toronto on Thursday, stay in Hearst Thursday night, take Algoma Central Railway to our resort Friday morning.
• Leave Toronto on Monday, stay in Hearst Monday night, take Algoma Central Railway to our resort Tuesday morning.

Departure Days

• Leave Wabatongushi Lake on Monday, stay in Hearst Monday night, take the Ontario Northland bus shuttle and train to Toronto Tuesday morning.
• Leave Wabatongushi Lake on Thursday, stay in Hearst Thursday night, take the Ontario Northland shuttle and train to Toronto Friday morning.
• Leave Wabatongushi Lake on Saturday, stay in Hearst Saturday night, take the Ontario Northland shuttle and train to Toronto Sunday morning.

Here are the 3 components of getting to our resort via the Ontario Northland Passenger Train from Toronto's Union Station through Hearst and the Algoma Central Railway:

Take the Ontario Northland Passenger Train from Toronto's Union Station. Purchase the ticket for Hearst so the bus shuttle is included. (You can also take the train from any of the other stops along the Ontario Northland Train Route) The Ontario Northland Passenger Train is scheduled to leave Toronto's Union Station at 8:40 am, get to Cochrane at about 7:25 pm, and the bus shuttle is scheduled to get you to Hearst at about 10:15 pm. On the way back, the bus shuttle leaves Hearst at 4:30 am for Cochrane and the Ontario Northland Passenger Train is scheduled to leave Cochrane at 8:00 am and arrive in Cochrane at 7:30 pm.

You are best to eat you meals in the Ontario Northland Passenger train's dining car anywhere between Toronto and Cochrane. Buy your ticket at the Ontario Northland Ticket counter in Union Station. Cost of the passenger train and bus shuttle from Toronto to Hearst is:

The Companion is ideally located on Highway 11 in downtown Hearst, Ontario next to the Algoma Central Railway. Queens Motel

The Queen's Motel is conveniently located at the centre of the Hearst community on the Trans-Canada (Highway 11) next to the Algoma Central Railway Passenger Train and the Ontario Northland Station.

The Queen Motel offers 70 well appointed guest rooms as well as a meeting room that can accommodate up to 35 people. They meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers.You will feel relaxed and welcomed immediately upon entering our lobby to check in.

Their facilities provide comfort, convenience and friendly hospitality at an affordable price. They are within close proximity to the town's business centre where you can visit shops, boutiques, pubs and restaurants.

The Algoma Central Passenger Train leaves Hearst at 8:30 am so you will want to be at the train between 8:00 am and 8:30 am. Have breakfast before you get to the train because there is no dining car on the Algoma Central Railway Passenger train. Buy your train ticket from the conductor. You will get to Wabatongushi Lake about 11:00 am where I will be waiting for you. On the way back I will be taking you to the Algoma Central Railway at about 4:00 pm. You are scheduled to board at about 4:20 pm and arrive in Hearst at 7:00 pm. The cost of the passenger train ticket from Hearst to Wabatongushi Lake (Mile 206) is:

Vacation At Our Resort

You have a choice of staying in either our cabins or suites during your stay. Our cabins are more secluded. Our suites are close to the lodge, recreation and service areas. Here are some pictures and more information about our Wilderness Island Resort suites and cottages.

Cottages - Our secluded cabins are very comfortably situated in scenic secluded surroundings. Each 1, 2, or 3 bedroom cottage has a 3 or 4 piece bathroom, large living room, full kitchen/dining room. Lake Wabatogushi is right outside the front door and each cabin has its own private dock. You have a choice of 2 single beds or 1 kingsize bed per bedroom.
