Walt Cannon had a really great day fishing with his friend Ron Kokelaar yesterday. They caugh a lot of Walleyes and quite a few nice Northern Pike all day long. Then they topped it off yesterday evening by catching and releasing this really beautiful 30 1/2 inch Walleye. He said it came almost all the way to the boat like a heavy log then went crazy. Multiple hard runs where they thought they would lose her, the Ron netted her and the little silver Mepps Walt was using slipped out of her mouth, so they were lucky getting her all the way in. Ron quickly took this picture of Walt and they released her so she can continue contributing to the fishing quality here on Lake Wabatongushi. This Walleye is probably around 28 years old and a prime spawner. This is Walt’s first vacation here, although he says he is already looking forward to next year. Walt’s friend Ron has been vacationing here for many years, sometimes with other friends, and sometimes with his family. What a great fish and a great day.
Walt’s 30 1/2 inch Walleye is the largest Walleye caught and released this year so far. We have also had a 30 inch Walleye released and 29 inch Walleye released so far this year. 2009 is shaping up to be a really great Walleye year.
